Art FAQs
Printer’s ProofA printer's proof is usually a very small number of (up to 7 or so) of prints that are kept by the commercial printer who produces them. The printer uses them for promotional purposes in print materials or hangs them on the wall as a sample of the type of printing they do. They are rarely offered for sale. Artists’ ProofAn artist's proof (also called A/P) are additional prints which are numbered separately from the regular limited edition prints. They can be retained by the artist and or the publisher and then sold as artist's prints. They generally cost more than a limited edition print. Limited EditionLimited Edition print (often called LE) is one of a series of high quality reproductions of an original work. The number of reproductions printed is strictly limited. Each print is signed by the artist and consecutively numbered. This gives each print an individual identity. There are two numbers on a limited edition print. Remarque A remarque (pronounced re-mar-kay) is a drawing done by the artist in the border of an artist's print. Remarqued prints are more expensive than the limited edition prints because of the extra work involved.. Buying a remarqued print means that the artist has customized the print for you.
